Mumbai's fight against Terror
As the terrorists strike at the heart of the financial capital of India, killing hundred of innocents and injuring others, our security forces including the Mumbai Police, National Security Guards, the Army and Marine Commandos came to the rescue saving scores of lives. We feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for these brave men, who risked their lives to save the civilians. Hats off to the much criticised police force, the Anti terrorist squad, the NSG , the Army, the Navy, the Fire men, the Doctors, the Nurses, the staff and Employees of the Taj and Trident and all those Mumbaikars who came together at these hours. Like the rest of Mumbaikars, as I switched between the TV channels watching Barkha Dutt, Prannoy Roy, Arnab and others in the media who spent sleepless nights and days giving a vivid description of the events and expressing the emotion of the people, the anger at the ineptness of the state government machinery and the useless rhetoric of politicians, I also felt a sense of deep anger welling within me. I have asked myself the reason for the same - why and at whom am I angry? It dawned on me that my anger is directed at myself. The sense of anger has its roots possibly at a feeling of guilt of being safe, whilst hundreds of families go through a trauma of losing their loved ones. The guilt of being helpless and unable to prevent that. The guilt of having not done anything at all in the past to ensure that we as citizens can do something in such moments of crisis. The much talked about Mumbai spirit will remain notwithstanding the sceptism expressed by some of the renowned personalities. I have seen the Mumbaikars come to streets in every moment of grief, be it the bomb blasts or the floods to bring solace to the suffering co -citizens. We will once again hold our hearts and hands together so that peace prevails. I pledge that I will along with our country's finest security personnel including the Police, Army, Navy and the NSG fight against the acts of disruption of peace that either terrorists from outside the country or politicians from within the country would undertake. Would love to hear ideas from others on what we can do.
